WHAT IS WIDE FORMAT PRINTING?
Join Our Growing Industry
Wide-format printing, also commonly known as large-format printing, is loosely defined as printing capabilities between 64 and 120 inches. The history of wide-format digital printing is very short compared with that of the print industry overall because wide-format digital printing only emerged at the end of last century.
The first wide-format digital printer was pioneered by Xerox and used Electrostatic technology, which pre-dates inkjet. Since then, however, wide-format digital printing has evolved rapidly with inkjet technology pioneered jointly by HP and Canon.
Current wide-format print technologies include Aqueous, Dye Sublimation, Latex, Pigment, Solvent, and UV. The SpeedPro network is proud to leverage Latex and UV print technologies that bring ideas to life every single day.
Advancements in technology continue to improve each year. Inks available today are becoming more environmentally friendly with every technological advancement. At SpeedPro, this is important to us because we care about the future of our environment. Read about SpeedPro’s green effort here.
Roll-fed or flatbed, wide-format digital printing, refers to a digital printer, which, as the name implies, is roll-fed or has a table where a substrate is loaded. Ink is printed directly onto the roll media or substrate through inkjets.
Wide-format printers are used to produce products for Point of Sale, branding and other marketing functions. Products include banners, posters, trade show graphics, wallpaper, murals, backlit film, vehicle image wraps, presentation backdrops, fine art, and any other large format artwork or signage.
Using inkjet technology, wide-format printers are more economical than other print methods – like screen printing, especially for short to medium size projects, like event signage, trade show signage, banners for a weekend event like a cycling race or posters for an art show.
In an age where visual messaging is key and brand recognition essential, wide-format printing really brings the “Wow!” factor back into businesses’ marketing strategies and SpeedPro is on the cutting edge of this industry.
